Real Speak is a free Android application designed to help English learners practice speaking through instant, real-time one-on-one voice conversations with peer learners from around the world.
Yes. Every feature in Real Speak is 100% free. There are no subscriptions, coins, or locked features. We believe language learning practice should be accessible to everyone.
Each voice call has an initial duration of 6 minutes (360 seconds). When 30 seconds remain, an extension prompt appears so both partners can choose to extend the call if they wish.
Yes. Learners of all proficiency levels are welcome. You can also use the in-call text chat for spelling or vocabulary help during calls if you ever feel stuck.
No. Real Speak is intentionally voice-only. Voice calls protect privacy, minimize data consumption, and keep the focus purely on conversational English.
Account & Features
Google Sign-In ensures that every learner has a verified account. This eliminates fake bots, reduces spam, and helps maintain a safe learning community.
Users earn points for conversation duration (1 point per 30 seconds) and post-call ratings (1★=1pt, 2★=3pts, 3★=6pts, 4★=10pts, 5★=20pts). Every 300 points advances your user level by 1 (e.g. Lvl-0, Lvl-1, Lvl-2), displayed next to your rating.
Yes. You can select from 6 built-in avatars anytime in Settings. You can update your nickname once every 3 days (3-20 characters, profanity-filtered).
To protect the privacy of all learners and prevent inappropriate images, Real Speak does not allow custom photo uploads. Everyone chooses from our standard friendly avatars.
The Speak Log records your practice history with dates, partner nicknames, and call durations. You can view previous partner profiles or tap 'Clear Log' to delete your history anytime.
Open the app Menu, scroll to the bottom, and tap 'Delete Account'. Confirming deletion permanently wipes your Firebase authentication, profile records, ratings, and Speak Logs immediately.
Safety & Moderation
After each call, you can give your partner a 1-5 star rating and select positive compliments (such as "Speaks Clearly", "Polite & Respectful", "Patient Listener"). Compliments are aggregated and displayed as percentages on the user profile.
If a user behaves inappropriately, end the conversation and tap 'Report User' on the rating screen. The app captures in-call session evidence for moderation review.
Users who violate our Terms & Conditions face immediate warnings or permanent bans. Real Speak enforces persistent SHA-256 email-hash blocking, preventing banned bad actors from returning even if they create new accounts.
For your own safety and privacy, we strictly advise against sharing personal information such as your phone number, social media handles, home address, or financial details.
Calls & Connectivity
Real Speak uses WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) with Cloudflare TURN servers for low-latency, encrypted audio streaming directly between peers.
No. We do not record, store, or monitor any voice audio streams. All calls are encrypted end-to-end between participants.
Real Speak only requests essential permissions: Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO) for voice communication, Network (INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE) for WebRTC matching, and audio settings (MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS).
Ensure you have an active internet connection and that Microphone permissions are granted. If you are on a restricted Wi-Fi network (such as corporate or university networks), firewalls may occasionally block WebRTC ports.
